Utpal Chakraborty is the head of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at YES bank. He is a prominent Data Scientist, strategist and thought leader having more than two decades of industry experience. This includes working as a Principal Architect in L&T (Larsen&Toubro) Infotech and being Head of Capgemini and other MNC’s.

“Suppose we talk about new generation technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data, etc., these are a blessing for humanity. Many problems which we couldn’t solve earlier are getting resolved with less effort now.”

How the journey started
“My journey started eight years ago when I wasn’t aware of AI or ML or any such words. These were just buzzwords to me back then and neither were they popular. I was fortunate enough to be part of such projects as there were no online courses or training centres where we could learn from. So initially, we struggled to learn. Gradually with time, we managed to learn these technologies after conversing with many IIT graduates, experts and institutions around the country.”

How to deal with any future Pandemic with AI?
“Digital technology is one of the major contributors. From a technology point of view, we have multiple technologies to deal with multiple issues. If we empower the public health department with useful tools we will be able to deal with the future pandemics more easily. It will be seamless in the next pandemic, as this time it is a learning for all of us. And it is not going to be this worse again, thanks to digital technologies.”

“I think Conversational Artificial Intelligence is going to get a tremendous focus in future. Technology is maturing; it has become hard to differentiate between a bot and a human. Technology, as we know, will advance with time. In future, devices such as Alexa, Google home, etc. will replace a lot of things.”

“To the young generation who want to pursue their careers in technology, there is a great future. We are still at the surface and there are many great things yet to come. So there will be a bundle of opportunities worldwide. Continuous learning can help you be relevant to the industry.”
